Timeline Mitopure™ Firming Serum
- Clinical evidence (on skin)★★0.3636A brand-sponsored trial found that a basic cream with 1% urolithin A slightly reduced wrinkle depth around the eyes over 8 weeks (a 0.5% cream did no better than placebo), but this serum was not the product tested and prints no amounts for its actives, so its claims reach partial support at best, and its cell-energy, exfoliation and smoother-texture claims have no human evidence.
- Third-party tested★★0None of six certifier databases lists this serum, and its 'dermatologist approved' and 'sensitive skin safe' badges name no lab; the published patch test (112 volunteers at an independent UK lab) tested two urolithin A creams, not this serum, and the registered patch test and in-use safety study of a Mitopure serum have posted no results.
- Free of synthetic dyes★★1No synthetic dyes and no colourant of any kind in the brand's full ingredient list, which matches the pack's 'Fragrance & colorant free' badge.
- Fragrance-free and low-allergen★★1No fragrance, essential oil, labelled fragrance allergen or high-risk preservative in the brand's full ingredient list, which matches its 'Fragrance & colorant free' badge.
- Unique formulation★★0.5Its urolithin A is also claimed by one competitor (ELIPLEX), but pairing it with niacinamide, two peptides and phytic acid was not found in 7 competitors as of 14 Oct 2026.
- Price vs competitors★★0$5.41 per mL, against a median of $0.91 across 7 competitors (checked 14 Oct 2026): about 5.9 times the median.
Evidence by claim, and how we rate
- Wrinkle reductionB · ½ starClaimed: “Wrinkle Reducing” (Amazon title); “RETINOL-LIKE BENEFITS WITHOUT IRRITATION: Clinically proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by up to 15%.* … *Based on an 8-week randomized controlled clinical trial of 36 healthy women aged 40 to 65 years.” (Amazon bullet 3); “48% reduction of the appearance of wrinkles after 8 weeks for this participant” (Amazon gallery image 5); “REDUCES WRINKLE VISIBILITY*” … “*Based on an 8-week randomized clinical trial of 48 healthy women aged 50 to 75 years.” (Amazon A+ image 15); “64% reduction of the appearance of wrinkles after 8 weeks for this participant” and “51% reduction of the appearance of wrinkles after 8 weeks for this participant” … “28-week before-and-after study; self-perception and clinical assessments on 132 participants (84% female)” (Amazon A+ image 2); “Wrinkle depth” (Amazon gallery image 4)Credited: Urolithin A (Mitopure) not printed (7th of 36 ingredients), Niacinamide not printed (3rd of 36 ingredients), Peptide complex: palmitoyl tripeptide-1, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 not printed (last two of 36 ingredients)
In the brand-sponsored trial behind the listing's 48-woman footnote, a plain moisturizing cream with 1% urolithin A reduced wrinkle depth around the eyes by 3.4% over 8 weeks while the placebo side rose 4.0% (22 women), and a 0.5% cream did no better than placebo; this serum was not the product tested and does not print its urolithin A amount, its niacinamide (which reduced fine lines at 5% against its plain cream in a 12-week split-face study of 50 women) is also unprinted, and the listing's 'up to 15%' trial of 36 women has no published paper or posted results. PMID 42866687 › PMID 18492135 › PMID 16029679 ›
- Firming and liftingB · ½ starClaimed: “Lifting” (Amazon title); “Firm, lift, brighten and hydrate skin instantly while targeting signs of aging over time with this concentrated, flash-absorbing formula.” (Amazon bullet 1); “Firming Serum” (Amazon A+ image 9); “boosting elasticity and firmness” (timeline.com, Mitopure FAQ); “Peptide Complex … addressing wrinkles and elasticity” (timeline.com)Credited: Urolithin A (Mitopure) not printed (7th of 36 ingredients), Peptide complex: palmitoyl tripeptide-1, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 not printed (last two of 36 ingredients), Niacinamide not printed (3rd of 36 ingredients)
The urolithin A trial registered firmness and elasticity measurements but has not reported them, and we found no controlled trial of the two peptides; the one ingredient with published controlled evidence is niacinamide, which at 5% for 12 weeks improved skin elasticity, measured by suction, against its plain cream, but this serum does not print its niacinamide amount, and nothing tested the 'instant' firming. PMID 16029679 › PMID 42866687 ›
- Collagen supportB · ½ starClaimed: “SUPPORTS COLLAGEN ASSEMBLY*” (Amazon A+ image 15); “Supports collagens assembly” (Amazon A+ image 5, comparison table; Mitopure and Peptides both ticked); “HEALTHY MITOCHONDRIA … Collagen assembly” (Amazon gallery image 4); “Activates genes involved with collagen assembly and organization” (timeline.com)Credited: Urolithin A (Mitopure) not printed (7th of 36 ingredients), Peptide complex: palmitoyl tripeptide-1, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 not printed (last two of 36 ingredients)
In forearm skin samples from the 8-week trial, the 1% urolithin A cream raised the activity of genes that organize collagen fibres (including type I and III collagen) compared with the placebo cream, a stand-in rather than a measure of collagen in the skin; collagen protein rose only in lab-grown skin, we found no controlled trial of the two peptides the listing also credits, the serum itself was not tested, and its urolithin A amount is not printed. PMID 42866687 ›
- Cellular energy and mitochondriaC · 0 starsClaimed: “Contains our patented and research-backed bioactive, Mitopure, to restore skin's energy supply” (Amazon bullet 2); “Mitopure® revitalizes mitochondria for more youthful-looking skin.” (Amazon gallery image 4); “Mitopure restores mitochondrial function to visibly improve how skin ages” (Amazon A+ image 4); “IMPROVES CELLULAR ENERGY & RENEWAL*” (Amazon A+ image 15); “Activates mitophagy” and “Targers cellular energy decline” [sic] (Amazon A+ image 5; Peptides marked 'Partial' for energy); “Renew mitochondria, optimize cellular performance and address visible signs of aging at the source.” (Amazon A+ image 1)Credited: Urolithin A (Mitopure) not printed (7th of 36 ingredients), Peptide complex: palmitoyl tripeptide-1, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 not printed (last two of 36 ingredients)
Better mitochondrial energy production and clean-up were shown only in skin cells, lab-grown skin and donated skin samples; neither trial in people reported any measure of skin energy or mitochondria, and the oral urolithin A trials do not apply to a serum. PMID 42866687 › PMID 35567884 ›
- Skin-cell renewalB · ½ starClaimed: “Increase skin cell renewal by 30%*” … “*Pre-clinical study on Keratinocytes from healthy donors treated with Mitopure® or vehicle for 24 hours.” (Amazon A+ image 4); “IMPROVES CELLULAR ENERGY & RENEWAL*” (Amazon A+ image 15); “Peptide Complex: Smooths & renews” (Amazon gallery image 7); “80% agreed skin looked more youthful and visibly renewed” (Amazon bullet 3); “Skin renewal” (Amazon gallery image 4); “Unlock skin’s natural power to renew” (Amazon gallery image 5); “Power your cells & renew your skin” (Amazon A+ image 1)Credited: Urolithin A (Mitopure) not printed (7th of 36 ingredients), Peptide complex: palmitoyl tripeptide-1, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 not printed (last two of 36 ingredients)
The '30%' comes from skin cells in a dish over 24 hours; in people the only sign is a stand-in, more activity of genes that build the outer skin layer in forearm samples after 8 weeks of the 1% cream against placebo, with no measure of how fast skin cells turn over, and the serum's urolithin A amount is not printed. PMID 42866687 ›
- Protection against sun damageB · ½ starClaimed: “PROTECTS AGAINST PHOTODAMAGE*” … “*Based on an 8-week randomized clinical trial of 48 healthy women aged 50 to 75 years.” (Amazon A+ image 15); “Protect against photodamage” (Amazon A+ image 5, comparison table; Mitopure and Peptides both ticked); “Photodamage: 14% reduction in visible, UV-induced redness within 24 hours” (timeline.com)Credited: Urolithin A (Mitopure) not printed (7th of 36 ingredients), Peptide complex: palmitoyl tripeptide-1, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 not printed (last two of 36 ingredients)
In a separate placebo-controlled trial of 22 adults (not the 48-woman trial the footnote names), skin given a measured sunburn and then covered with the 1% urolithin A cream for a day was 13% less red than untreated burned skin, but the paper reports that difference only against untreated skin, not against the placebo cream, the 0.5% cream showed no significant benefit, redness a day later is a stand-in for sun damage, and the cream was put on after the UV, which tests soothing rather than protection. PMID 42866687 › PMID 35567884 ›
- Brightening and even toneB · ½ starClaimed: “Brightening” (Amazon title); “Firm, lift, brighten and hydrate skin instantly” (Amazon bullet 1); “plus red algae, green tea and phytic acid hydrate, tone and gently exfoliate” (Amazon bullet 2); “Niacinamide: Brightens & clears” (Amazon gallery image 7); “balances sebum, strengthens skin barrier & evens tone” (timeline.com)Credited: Niacinamide not printed (3rd of 36 ingredients), Camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract not printed, Chondrus crispus (red algae) powder not printed, Phytic acid not printed
Niacinamide has placebo-controlled trials: at 5% in a moisturizer it faded dark spots against the plain cream within 4 weeks (18 women) and reduced spots, red blotches and yellowing over 12 weeks (50 women), but this serum lists niacinamide third without printing its amount, and we found no human trial of its green tea or red algae for skin tone. PMID 12100180 › PMID 18492135 › PMID 16029679 ›
- Hydration and moistureB · ½ starClaimed: “Hydrating” (Amazon title); “Firm, lift, brighten and hydrate skin instantly” (Amazon bullet 1); “red algae, green tea and phytic acid hydrate” (Amazon bullet 2); “Multi-Layer Hydration System: Preserves & moisturizes” (Amazon gallery image 7); “100% agree skin feels immediately hydrated, nourished & supple” (Amazon gallery image 6); “Powerful humectants glycerin, provitamin b5 and sodium hyaluronate help retain moisture for soft, supple skin texture” (timeline.com)Credited: Glycerin not printed (2nd of 36 ingredients), Panthenol (provitamin B5) not printed (6th of 36), Sodium hyaluronate not printed (30th of 36), Chondrus crispus (red algae) powder, Camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract, phytic acid not printed
Its humectants are standard moisturizers, and dexpanthenol (provitamin B5) raised skin water content more than its plain base in controlled trials, but no trial tested this serum or these ingredients at its unprinted amounts, the urolithin A trial measured hydration without reporting a result, and the '100% felt hydrated' figure is the opinion of 30 users. PMID 10965426 › PMID 19753737 › PMID 42866687 ›
- Gentle exfoliationC · 0 starsClaimed: “plus red algae, green tea and phytic acid hydrate, tone and gently exfoliate” (Amazon bullet 2); “Phytic Acid: Exfoliates & refines” (Amazon gallery image 7); “Antioxidant AHA that boosts cell turnover and clarifies pores.” (timeline.com)Credited: Phytic acid not printed (24th of 36 ingredients), Chondrus crispus (red algae) powder not printed (26th of 36), Camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf extract not printed (23rd of 36)
We found no human trial of phytic acid on its own for exfoliation: the two human reports used it mixed with glycolic, lactic and other acids and had no control group, and we found none for the red algae or green tea the listing also credits. PMID 33133340 › PMID 27602981 ›
- Smoother skin textureC · 0 starsClaimed: “Rough texture” (Amazon gallery image 4, under “DYSFUNCTIONAL MITOCHONDRIA”, beside “Mitopure® revitalizes mitochondria for more youthful-looking skin.”); “Peptide Complex: Smooths & renews” (Amazon gallery image 7); “Phytic Acid: Exfoliates & refines” (Amazon gallery image 7); “84% agree skin texture looks smoother & more even.” (timeline.com)Credited: Urolithin A (Mitopure) not printed (7th of 36 ingredients), Peptide complex: palmitoyl tripeptide-1, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 not printed (last two of 36 ingredients), Phytic acid not printed (24th of 36 ingredients)
The urolithin A trial measured skin roughness but reports no result, we found no controlled trial of the two peptides on their own, phytic acid has only uncontrolled reports in which it was mixed with other acids, and the '84% agree texture looks smoother' figure is a consumer opinion. PMID 42866687 › PMID 33133340 › PMID 27602981 ›
- Stronger, more resilient skinB · ½ starClaimed: “90% agree skin feels protected, stronger & revitalized” … “Based on a 3-week user trial of 30 healthy women aged 40 to 65 years. Morning and Evening product application.” (Amazon gallery image 6); “Complementary actives support skin's healthspan for a vibrant, resilient, healthy-looking complexion” (Amazon A+ image 4); “Optimizes skin healthspan for a resilient, youthful-looking complexion.” (timeline.com; same words on Amazon A+ image 9); “strengthens skin barrier” (timeline.com, niacinamide); “improving hydration and barrier function” (timeline.com, Mitopure FAQ)Credited: Panthenol (provitamin B5) not printed (6th of 36), Urolithin A (Mitopure) not printed (7th of 36 ingredients), Niacinamide not printed (3rd of 36 ingredients)
Dexpanthenol (provitamin B5), the serum's sixth ingredient, cut water loss through the skin and sped barrier repair against its plain base in two controlled trials, but this serum does not print its amount; the urolithin A trial listed skin water loss as a main outcome and reports no result, and the '90% feel protected, stronger' figure is the opinion of 30 users. PMID 10965426 › PMID 19753737 › PMID 42866687 ›

Competitors compared (7, checked 2026-10-14): ELIPLEX Resveratrol + Urolithin A Face Silk Serum, mito:ON Cell Rejuvenation Anti-Aging Serum (10% Niacinamide Boosting Ampoule), medicube NAD EGF Firming Serum, BIODANCE Firming Collagen Peptide Face Serum, The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + Copper Peptides 1% Serum, RoC Derm Correxion Retinol Firming Serum Stick, IDEO Skin Memory Serum. This serum's actives (brand ingredient list, 2026-10-14): urolithin A (Mitopure), niacinamide, panthenol, glycerin and sodium hyaluronate, caffeine, saccharide isomerate, Camellia sinensis leaf extract, Chondrus crispus powder, hydrolyzed Opuntia ficus-indica flower extract, phytic acid, palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7. Urolithin A, its headline active, is also claimed by ELIPLEX (title and bullet; no ingredient list, and the new bottle front no longer names it), paired there with resveratrol and hyaluronic acid. Niacinamide is in mito:ON (10%), medicube, BIODANCE and IDEO; the same two peptides are in The Ordinary; hyaluronate is in most. Phytic acid, caffeine, green tea and Chondrus crispus appear in no competitor's published list. The combination of urolithin A with niacinamide, the two peptides and phytic acid was not found in 7 competitors as of 2026-10-14, but its distinguishing active is shared with ELIPLEX and the rest is common in the set: partly unique (0.5). Judgement call: if ELIPLEX's urolithin A is discounted as unverified, 1.0 is arguable.
